How To Create A Surreal Dreamscape Using Photoshop Effects – Hey guys! I’m Jackson Polman. In this post, I’ll show you how to create a two-photo dreamscape in just a few steps using Photoshop.
Using a sunrise or sunset photo will add an extra touch to your final work. Start by opening the foreground image in #Photoshop. We’ll mask out some of the background to create a smooth transition between the horizon and the stars.
How To Create A Surreal Dreamscape Using Photoshop Effects
Use the Rectangular Marquee Tool (M) and click and drag over the image. Don’t forget to choose between the horizon line and the top border of the photo.

Hold down the Shift key and click Select and Mask. Adjust the border by dragging the Feather option to about 200px, then press OK.
Next, using the Move Tool (V), click and drag the selection onto your star (background) image. Make sure the foreground layer is above the star layer. Use the Crop Tool (C) to expand visibility. Using the Move tool, drag your foreground layer to the bottom of the cropped area.
“Free transition” and vertical increase. Double-click to confirm, then drag the image down to smooth the transition to the stars.
Using the Brush Tool (B), we’ll add a bright star to make the transition between the horizon and the sky a little more realistic. Click on the Brush Preset selector and adjust it to 25px with 50% Hardness. Change the mode to “Lighten” and get the opacity and flow to 85%. Select duplicate layer “no. 2” and apply the brush where the horizon fades into the stars.

After using the brush to create the star, we’ll use a second brush to create the star’s glow. Adjust the brush settings to 175px, Solidity 0%, Opacity 50% and Flow 25%. Apply this brush to the newly created star.

Photoshop For Beginners: Create A Surreal Shadow Effect
Today we will create an awesome layout by combining 5-6 different images into one. We’ll learn a variety of Photoshop functions to achieve beautiful results that you can apply to your works.
1. Low perspective shot taken in a small pond near my building. To take this type of photo, you need to use a tripod (the smaller the better if you don’t want to get wet), this tripod must be in the water so the camera can wrap as close to the surface as possible.
First, let’s blend the sky and create a reflection on the water. We move the sky as a new layer over the pond (image 1), create a layer mask and partially hide the sky by creating a horizon line (image 2):
Next, duplicate the sky, activate the transform function (Cmd T), Flip Vertical, move it to reflect the sky and reduce its Opacity to 35%. We may need to do some cleanup on the layer mask to get a nice horizon line.

Now let’s take the rocks and make them into our image. Of course, there are many ways to make a choice, but I’ve presented the one I used in this case.
First, I selected a rough area around the rocks and created a separate layer. Then I used the magic wand tool and selected the rock. Then I cleaned up the rock selection with the Lasso tool (Alt-click with the tool to remove the selection and Shift to add a selection).
Once the selection is made, it’s better to create a layer mask with that selection and then move the entire image with that mask so it can work without being destroyed.
After moving it into our image, we must fix the shadow so that the rocks look like they are in the middle of water. To do this, we reduce the opacity of the black brush to 50% and paint the bottom of the rocks.

Now select the bird and switch to our image. At the end of the bird we use the same principle as we did with the rocks.
When moving the bird, it is very important to understand where to place it in terms of light sources and shadows. In this case, we assume that the light comes not only from the sun but also from reflected water and wet rocks. Then we will also create a reflection of the bird that is partially visible in the water.
We do the same exercise with the boat. Picking out the ship will be a bit difficult, but the good news is that half of it will be hidden underwater.
As you already understood, to hide the lower part of the boat in the water, we draw a black mask on the layer, which will hide the part of the boat and reveal the water, the layer is visible below.

We create a reflection for the ship. It is very similar to the sky reflection we made before, the only difference is that we painted black with low opacity (20%) on the layer mask, making the reflection gradually gradually invisible as we go deeper into the water.
By color matching, I mean changing the color tone of the bird and the boat to match the orange tone of the background. To do that, all we need is to directly apply the orange photo filter to these images.
This is a way to create a shadow for the ship. Let’s create a curves adjustment layer, make the entire image dark, then press cmd + I to fill the adjustment layer with black. At this point, the adjustment has no effect on the image.
Then, with a white brush at low opacity (50%), we paint the shadowed area, drawing twice as close to the boat to make it darker.
How To Create A Double Exposure Effect In Photoshop
Using the same principle as above, we create the sun. In this case, lighten the image by adjusting the curves and applying the circular gradient tool for a smooth spread of light. We also apply a warm photo filter.
Final actions include a variety of actions such as dodging and burning, selective color adjustment, screening, noise reduction, and more. Remember that our work is non-destructive, which means we can always go to each layer to make changes and adjustments. For example, I added the opacity of the sky reflection closer to the end to make it clearer.
One useful tool worth mentioning is how to perform dodges and burns without losing focus. Therefore, we create an empty layer, fill it with a gray color of 50%, create a soft blending mode and reduce the opacity to about 40-50%.
You will see that nothing has changed on your image. Now, with a soft brush, you can paint with different colors on that gray layer to create highlights and shadows.
