Today I’m going to talk about how to add texture to your digital photos. Even though I draw in Procreate, the same principles apply to Photoshop.
I love digital photography, the creative options are endless, but it comes with challenges, especially if you’re a beginner. It’s easy to blend and the artwork can look plasticky, getting in your way. In my early days, I was struggling to get rid of this “plastic”, and today I am here to share my tips!
I’m not talking about the obvious: try to catch every little detail. Yes you are free to do this but 1) it takes a lot of time, 2) it can kill the fun of drawing. Here I will talk about small, short steps that can make a big difference. So here we go!
Techniques For Creating Custom Textures In Photoshop — Smashing Magazine
This is my first image that I drew on my iPad Pro in copy software using several brushes. Plastic skin, slightly mixed, very beautiful. Fortunately we can make an impression.
This was my favorite way to create a simple look when I was working in Photoshop many years ago. Unfortunately, when I changed the bearing, there was no audio system. Can you imagine how happy I was when the hype was added to the final delivery?!
Simply go to Settings -> Sound and play around with the settings until you like the result. It creates a little structure, but enough to make a difference.
I love using color brushes because they give you complete control and the possibilities are endless. Choose your favorite brush (I use mine, but you can use any!), pick a color and start painting on another layer. I usually play with different colors and define my style for coverage, soft highlights or more, depending on how I want it. I also play with different colors. The results are natural and natural, just as if you were painting a picture on a canvas. The only downside is that this is not a one-click process, you have to practice doing it correctly.

Depending on the type of photo you choose, you can move from nature to more interesting events. Here I used this image. There are many online resources, both free and paid. At the end of this post I will share my personal favorite.
That’s it! One-click editing (almost) to add texture to your digital photos and get rid of ugly, fake plastic!
Update: Lately, things aren’t my favorite place anymore. I always think twice before I write something wrong on the internet, but I want to make it clear to you. The quality of the files is very low and many files are corrupted or cannot be opened at all. The worst part is that you cannot leave a comment and there is no one to complain to. I still have subscriptions I can renew, but lately I haven’t been happy with the site.
You should know that I can’t live without coffee. So, if you like this blog, please consider giving it a thumbs up!

To start, we will have an image of the texture that we want to turn into a regular brush. We need to make some adjustments to increase the contrast, remove color, and change the composition to white or black objects.
Press CTRL or CMD+L to open the Levels dialog box. Move the highlights and shadows inward.
