Step By Step Guide To Retouching Family Portraits In Photoshop

Step By Step Guide To Retouching Family Portraits In Photoshop – There are countless articles and tutorials that teach portrait composition and retouching. However, finding people with quality techniques and knowledge can take days. Also, there is no tutorial that teaches a complete set of portrait retouching techniques for free. Finding the right guide for each aspect of editing can be time-consuming. This article covers 5 years of research to find the best ways to retouch a portrait.

Before we dive into the content of the article, it is important to note that the fastest and most effective way to learn about retouching is probably through one of the paid tutorials. Michael Voloshinowicz has a great guide to high quality retouching for beauty and studio photographers. He is gifted not only in photography and retouching, but also in conveying information clearly and succinctly. The information can be understood by anyone at any level. A few months ago, I released an RGGEDU tutorial for portrait photographers interested in a quick and easy way to retouch portraits to make them stand out. In this tutorial, I’ll walk you through 9 portrait sessions in different locations using natural light and share my complete post-processing workflow for each shoot. Also, I’m adding my own action that allows you to send out changes within 15 minutes.

One other quick thing I’d like to address is the misconception that “it’s all about editing.” it’s not like that. Image editing will allow you to make a great photo only on the edge. It won’t turn a bad photo into a great one. The techniques I’m about to share are not meant to replace photography, but to enhance it.

Photoshop Basics: Getting To Know The History Panel

Cropping an image is simple. Its importance is often overlooked. Even with the best retouching techniques, if the correct photo has not been selected for editing, the results will not be interesting or pleasing to the eye. It is difficult to choose 3-5 images from a photo shoot out of 500. In fact, this is an art form. I’ve found the best way to narrow it down is to pick 35 images, then show them to friends and family and let their instincts guide you.

Another important thing to remember is that it is always better to use more natural poses. While creativity is important, it’s equally important not to overdo it or try too hard.

There is no cutting technique. It’s all about finding an image that’s pleasing to the human eye. And that’s what makes it the most difficult, because it’s so much individuality. Therefore, it is better to share it with as many people as possible. Forget about a technically perfect image. Find an image that speaks to you and your friends. To learn more about this, check out the following article: A technically perfect photo doesn’t make sense

Open Adobe Bridge – navigate to the folder containing the image – press spacebar and use the arrow keys to navigate – press any number from 1 to 5 to rate the image – press spacebar again and type Press (this will open the image in CameraRaw or Photoshop ).

Master Portrait Photoshop: Enhance Facial Features Effectively

People often confuse Camera Raw with the place where special effects and filter settings are applied. However, CR helps create a foundation for continued editing in Photoshop. CR is not a place where great results are achieved. It is used for RAW adjustments, such as bringing back some detail in highlights, adjusting white balance.

With this in mind, it’s important to avoid global adjustments like using exposure and contrast sliders. Adding contrast is something you can do manually in the editing process. If you add contrast to the CR, you’ll see that skin and eye toning issues become dark and reversible. If something minor is annoying, like skin on the dark side, there are ways to make it brighter without using an exposure slider that brightens the background in the process. Click the glow slider, the orange and red sliders can be used to lighten the skin and leave everything else. Sharpness is low, but around 10 usually makes the image sharp and makes it easier to dodge and record. This will make blemishes like acne even more noticeable, but that’s okay because you can fix it later.

This guide shows you how to fix skin blemishes, you can also use it to remove skin hair. Don’t follow her advice on using eye bags patches. This is a huge no-no because you’re messing with the text. In the next section of this article, I will explain how to repair bags.

Frequency separation is aimed at correcting skin tone inconsistencies. Here’s a tutorial that explains it. If this method seems long and you are losing patience, skip to the next video that will teach you another simple method to solve skin color problems.

Dodging and burning is probably the most important part of your workflow. It is the most difficult to master, but at the same time the most pleasant. Before you click on the video below, it’s most important to understand where to dodge and burn. The tools and techniques you use to dodge and burn are simple and not very important. Understanding where and how much to dodge and burn is the key to success here. Check out this article I wrote last year that will help you figure out where to dodge and “One makeup tip I wish someone had told me when I was starting out in photography.”

Again, there are dozens of ways to dodge and burn, so don’t stop at the tools you need to use. Focus on understanding where and how much to do it. Just follow the techniques used by makeup artists. They understand it perfectly. I’ll keep it simple by using a new layer with a soft light and a 50% gray fill. Then use a brush with 5% opacity and use a white brush for the highlight and a black brush for the highlight. This is a method I came across in Scott Kelbe’s book Light, Shoot, Retouch.

How To Edit Your Photos In Photoshop Cc. Any Photo Better In 4 Easy Steps

I have already written the perfect article to help you make your eyes shine and look natural. “Understanding the human eye and how to retouch it naturally” I searched YouTube for eye retouching tutorials and couldn’t find any. All I’ve seen are silly methods with completely exaggerated results.

To sharpen the duplicate eyes layer, go to Filter > More > High Frequency, set it to 30. Then set the layer’s blending mode to Soft Light. Add a black mask. Use a white brush with 50% opacity and paint the eyes. Make sure your mask is selected when drawing.

Note before you continue: If you’re not happy with your image right now, the tinting part won’t change how you feel about the image. Toning never completely changes a photo, and many people blame toning on a lack of post-production skills. Tinting will add a little to an already solid image. Before moving on to tinting, the main thing to remember is that tinting is not about using random colors and filters. It can work one out of 20 times. If you want to reach the toning part, you need a clear understanding of complementary colors. However, this goes beyond tinting. It is important to take this into account when choosing a wardrobe and location.

My friend Nino Batista wrote a great article about resizing images for readable social media. Personally, I resize the image to 2100px along the long edge using Photoshop Image Size (CTr+ALT+I).
