How To Create A Dreamy Soft Focus Effect In Photoshop For Portraits – I thought she was the most beautiful woman on the planet, especially after watching her in “Gone With the Wind,” wearing one amazing outfit after another.

They had a beautiful dreamy quality and proved the beauty and what I wanted to do was how to make beautiful pictures.

What I didn’t realize at the time was that the pictures were apparently taken with a pair of shirts (or pantyhose for my American readers) over the glass – an old film trick used during Old Hollywood.

In today’s article, I want to share my favorite tools and techniques for achieving that sleek, smooth look (if you prefer video to text, watch my video on Dream Pictures below):

You might think you can freeze your glass to create this dreamy effect, but unfortunately it doesn’t work.

The first (and easiest) way to create dreamy, dreamy images is to use things around your home.

In fact, all you have to do is find a pair of tights or socks in your wardrobe and cover the glass with a cloth.

You can also use the thin socks you get when trying on bare shoes at a shoe store.

Different colors lead to different effects – most people use black pants, but I’ve had good results with colored ones too.

All you need to do to create beautiful, dreamy images is pull the fabric over your lens and fix it so it doesn’t slip – I use a simple rubber band.

Sidenote: You may find that your camera’s autofocus doesn’t work this way – in that case, you may need to focus manually instead.  

The reason this technique produces beautiful soft focus images is because some of the light passing through the fabric will be bent, while others will go straight in.

Also, depending on the lights and accessories you use, you can get pretty circles, light bulbs, and more.

Another great way to create dreamy images with a soft effect is to use Vaseline. This is exactly why I always keep a bottle of Vaseline in my closet!

Create The Orton Effect In Photoshop

But first, a very important disclaimer: Please do not apply Vaseline directly to your glasses…you don’t want to damage your expensive device.

Instead, just buy an inexpensive UV or other cleaning filter that you can use to clean your “Vaseline filter” after use.

In practice, this should be one of the easiest ways to focus photos – just put some Vaseline on your lens filter and shoot.

I really like to leave it out and open in the middle – it works great for photos.

How To Take Dreamy Photos

I love the pantyhose effect, but these days I mostly use glass lenses for my soft photography because they are versatile and have different powers.

Once you’re ready to shoot, attach the filter to your lens (first, don’t forget to remove the filter after your shot) or you’ll suddenly notice that your photos start to look dreamy! (I know, it’s happened to me so many times that I put it there forever).

There are many soft filters available to create a custom image. In my opinion, you don’t need to buy expensive brands; It would be cheaper to operate.

Be sure to buy the correct filter size for your lens – it’s printed on the outside of your lens with the “⌀” symbol.

Bokeh Mastery In Photography

If you like really soft shots, you might want to invest in a soft prime lens.

The most popular brand for these is Lensbaby – the lenses aren’t cheap, but they are intended for this technique and work well.

I haven’t tried any soft contact lenses because I really like using filters, Vaseline and tights.

However, I’ve seen photos taken and they look great, so it might be worth saving up for one of these lenses.

Using Diffusion Filters

If you want to save some money, I’ve heard of people using lenses from cameras to take dream photos (however, you need an attachment to attach them to your camera).

Or if you want to cheat you can use a magnifying glass, but you’ll need to make your own transparent ring out of black paper or cardboard / mount the magnifying glass to the front of a cardboard box so your images don’t fade. over exposed

I really want to try this last method because I think it will create a very interesting effect with an element of randomness, which often leads to the most interesting results.

Actually I don’t usually do this – I always prefer to do it during the shoot rather than afterwards because I think it’s usually more realistic and cool.

However, if you don’t have access I’m posting it here to give you the option.

What I love about soft focus is how easy and affordable it is to achieve in your photography. Vaseline or tights only cost a few pounds, and even special cleaning lotions are very cheap.
